On the arithmetic and geometry of binary Hamiltonian forms

2011

Given an indefinite binary quaternionic Hermitian form $f$ with coefficients in a maximal order of a definite quaternion algebra over $\mathbb Q$, we give a precise asymptotic equivalent to the number of nonequivalent representations, satisfying some congruence properties, of the rational integers with absolute value at most $s$ by $f$, as $s$ tends to $+\infty$. We compute the volumes of hyperbolic 5-manifolds constructed by quaternions using Eisenstein series. In the Appendix, V. Emery computes these volumes using Prasad's general formula. We use hyperbolic geometry in dimension 5 to describe the reduction theory of both definite and indefinite binary quaternionic Hermitian forms.

Some seminorms on quasi*-algebras

2003

Dieren t types of seminorms on a quasi -algebra (A; A0) are constructed from a suitable family F of sesquilinear forms on A. Two particular classes, extended C -seminorms and CQ -seminorms, are studied in some detail. A necessary and sucien t condition for the admissibility of a sesquilinear form in terms of extended C -seminorms on (A; A0) is given.

Current Algebras as Hilbert Space Operator Cocycles

1994

Aspects of a generalized representation theory of current algebras in 3 + 1 dimensions axe discussed. Rules for a systematic computation of vacuum expectation values of products of currents are described. Their relation to gauge group actions in bundles of fermionic Fock spaces and to the sesquilinear form approach of Langmann and Ruijsenaars is explained. The regularization for a construction of an operator cocycle representation of the current algebra is explained. An alternative formula for the Schwinger terms defining gauge group extensions is written in terms of Wodzicki residue and Dixmier trace.

Extensions of Representable Positive Linear Functionals to Unitized Quasi *-Algebras: A New Method

2014

In this paper we introduce a topological approach for extending a representable linear functional \({\omega}\), defined on a topological quasi *-algebra without unit, to a representable linear functional defined on a quasi *-algebra with unit. In particular, we suppose that \({\omega}\) is continuous and the positive sesquilinear form \({\varphi_\omega}\), associated with \({\omega}\), is closable and prove that the extension \({\overline{\varphi_\omega}^e}\) of the closure \({\overline{\varphi_\omega}}\) is an i.p.s. form. By \({\overline{\varphi_\omega}^e}\) we construct the desired extension.

A Lebesgue-type decomposition for non-positive sesquilinear forms

2018

A Lebesgue-type decomposition of a (non necessarily non-negative) sesquilinear form with respect to a non-negative one is studied. This decomposition consists of a sum of three parts: two are dominated by an absolutely continuous form and a singular non-negative one, respectively, and the latter is majorized by the product of an absolutely continuous and a singular non-negative forms. The Lebesgue decomposition of a complex measure is given as application.

Closedness and lower semicontinuity of positive sesquilinear forms

2009

The relationship between the notion of closedness, lower semicontinuity and completeness (of a quotient) of the domain of a positive sesquilinear form defined on a subspace of a topological vector space is investigated and sufficient conditions for their equivalence are given.

Partial *-algebras of closable operators: A review

1996

This paper reviews the theory of partial *-algebras of closable operators in Hilbert space (partial O*-algebras), with some emphasis on partial GW*-algebras. First we discuss the general properties and the various types of partial *-algebras and partial O*-algebras. Then we summarize the representation theory of partial *-algebras, including a generalized Gel’fand-Naimark-Segal construction; the main tool here is the notion of positive sesquilinear form, that we study in some detail (extendability, normality, order structure, …). Finally we turn to automorphisms and derivations of partial O*-algebras, and their mutual relationship. The central theme here is to find conditions that guarante…

Representable linear functionals on partial *-algebras

2012

A GNS-like *-representation of a partial *-algebra \({{\mathfrak A}}\) defined by certain representable linear functionals on \({{\mathfrak A}}\) is constructed. The study of the interplay with the GNS construction associated with invariant positive sesquilinear forms (ips) leads to the notions of pre-core and of singular form. It is shown that a positive sesquilinear form with pre-core always decomposes into the sum of an ips form and a singular one.

Convolution of three functions by means of bilinear maps and applications

1999

When dealing with spaces of vector-valued analytic functions there is a natural way to understand multipliers between them. If X and Y are Banach spaces and L(X,Y ) stands for the space of linear and continuous operators we may consider the convolution of L(X,Y )-valued analytic functions, say F (z) = ∑ n=0∞ Tnz , and X-valued polynomials, say f(z) = ∑m n=0 xnz , to get the Y -valued function F ∗ f(z) = ∑ Tn(xn)z. The second author considered such a definition and studied multipliers between H(X) and BMOA(Y ) in [5]. When the functions take values in a Banach algebra A then the natural extension of multiplier is simply that if f(z) = ∑ anz n and g(z) = ∑ bnz , then f ∗ g(z) = ∑ an.bnz n whe…

Counting and equidistribution in Heisenberg groups

2014

We strongly develop the relationship between complex hyperbolic geometry and arithmetic counting or equidistribution applications, that arises from the action of arithmetic groups on complex hyperbolic spaces, especially in dimension $2$. We prove a Mertens' formula for the integer points over a quadratic imaginary number fields $K$ in the light cone of Hermitian forms, as well as an equidistribution theorem of the set of rational points over $K$ in Heisenberg groups. We give a counting formula for the cubic points over $K$ in the complex projective plane whose Galois conjugates are orthogonal and isotropic for a given Hermitian form over $K$, and a counting and equidistribution result for …
